A small business goes 1 year without Windows

From www.newsforge.com

My company, Adams-Blake Co., started its business life on a Macintosh platform and moved to Windows in 1995. By late 2001, administration had gone from a chore to a nightmare. When it was again time to upgrade we decided to change to Linux. We began with Mandrake, then tried Slackware, and now run a few machines with Mepis. We’ve always had a challenge to see if we could not use Windows for an entire year. We’ve never been able to do it — until now.

It seems like this company is heading in the right direction. Windows is buying up every sector of the market they can get and forcing small software businesses out. Ex. M$ Antispyware Beta.

There has been a spyware problem on the internet for about a year and a half now, and up until 4th quarter 2004, all spyware removal companies were small businesses trying to make it by. (Lavasoft, PepiMK Software, Webroot) All of a sudden, M$ realizes, “Hey! We can create our own spyware removal program, and make money off of it! Why should anyone else develop software for our operating system?!”

M$ releases it’s Antispyware Beta and now programs like Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot Search and Destroy have fall by the way side. Microsoft is the new McDonalds of the world.

Posted 2554 days ago by Alex in Internet

For a while now, there have been rumors going around about Kevin Rose leaving G4. On Sunday May, 22 he officially announced it on his website, www.kevinrose.com.

This really comes as no huge blow, because with the release of this news, comes the news that he is leaving to support his new Tech Television venture.

Today also marks the premier of a new show called ‘systm‘ which Kevin has helped develop. We can only expect excellent programming from the ex-G4 host.

Continuing work on the new site.

Posted 2554 days ago by Alex in Interesting Links, Site updates

I have been hard at work on the new layout. It’s taking a lot longer than I thought it would to get WordPress incorporated into this design. It’s just a big pain because I have to make a template out of the site layout I created and there are a number of files that I have to make work. And by work, I mean look good.

The server has been up and down lately, but from what I hear, this is very unusual and should pass soon.

I’ve also moved the Ad to the top of the site. It uses JavaScript to place the image, so when the page loads, it may not be in the right place at first, just wait till everything loads and it’ll move on it’s own.

M$ Visual Studio 2005

Posted 2556 days ago by Alex in Software

Yup. Recieved my new copy of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 today. It looks purdy. :)

It even comes with a free trial copy of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. It’s a 365-day working version. That’s a long demo! Too bad I just switched from ASP development to PHP here on my new host.

Haha M$ take that!
